Outlook 2007 is unable to send email & gives Error 0x800CCC80

I have a new Vista laptop and am trying to get POP3 email working in Outlook
2007. I can receive email messages but I get the following error when I try
to send - "None of the authentication methods supportd by this client are
supported by your server" with error code 0x800CCC80. I have Symantec
security installed and have tried disabling it, running the Norton
Connectivity Tool and a host of other things but nothing seems to fix the
problem. I have contacted my ISP but they advise me there is no problem with
their service and that my email settings are configured correctly. If you
have experieced this problem and have a solution please let me know. Thanks,
Alan.

Uninstall Norton and re-install it WITHOUT the email scanning service. You
do not need email scanning, it is redundant and only serves to cause email
problems. In spite of what they may tell you, Norton is NOT fully
compatible with Vista and email problems like this are commonplace when
Norton is used. The general consensus is to abandon Norton completely in
favor of an antivirus application that is compatible, such as Avast! or AVG.
Note that even with these compatible programs, the email scanning features
should NOT be installed and used.

Hal, Thanks for the suggestion. I unistalled Norton, restarted and tried
sending email but got the same error message. My Vista laptop is a Sony Viao
VGN SZ58GN whereas my XP laptop is a Dell Latitude D600 which has no problems
with email and Outlook 2003. This problem is becoming a real pain and I can't
make the switch to the Sony until I get it sorted. Any further suggestions
would be welcome.

Sadly, uninstalling Norton seldom uninstalls Norton; the uninstaller misses
a number of files and doesn't cleanup the registry properly. Symantec has
an uninstaller you can download from their site that does a better job.
Note that I've seen this error before and the solution has normally been to
get rid of Norton.

I user of mine had that option selected and when traveling would have
problems. "Log on to incoming mail server before sending mail" fixed it.
