OUTLOOK 2007 HIDES/LOSES MESSAGES!!

G

gomertrash

Greetings,

Outlook 2007 will download my messages, but will not display them
all. For example, if OL2007 tells me that it has received 10
messages, only 5 will be displayed. The others are simply not shown.
They are not redirected to JunkMail or Spam folders (I have no
filtering rules, and have disabled Norton AntiSpam).

If I open the exact same PST file in OL2003, the messages show up
properly in the Inbox. If I move the PST file back to OL2007, they
are still hidden.

System Config:
Windows XP Pro SP2 (fully patched)
Office 2007 Enterprise Edition
Norton Internet Security 2007 (spam filtering is disabled)

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Gomer

PS: Can OL2003 be installed on a machine that already has OL2007, or
must OL2007 first be removed?

I've gotten caught by this little "feature" of Outlook...sometimes messages
will be grouped together and "collapsed". You can look for a little "+" sigh
to the left of the message. Click on it and it will expand. Or go to View -
Expand/Collpase Groups to expand all groups.

Tim,

Thanks for the response - however that's not the problem. All
groups are expanded, and messages are being arranged by date.

OK...have you checked out View - Current View? Make sure "Messages" is
chosen or there is no strange filter set in "Customize View"

Yes - "Messages" is shown as the Current View, and I have no filters
in "Customize View".

Interestingly, I reset the Messages view to its default settings,
which (among other things) is to ARRANGE BY DATE with NEWEST ON TOP.
When I did this, more messages appeared (31 in all). If I simply
switch to OLDEST ON TOP, then I only show 18 for the same time
period. In OL2003 (using the EXACT SAME PST file), there are 142
messages for the SAME time period!!!

If I switch to "Unread Messages in this Folder", then it appears that
all of the unread/hidden messages appear in OL2007. Switching back to
Messages makes them go away again. Finally, if I look in the "Unread
Mail" Search Folder, then it also appears if all of the of the unread/
hidden messages show up. Going back to the Inbox, things are still
missing. Something strange is still going on! Any more ideas??

Thanks,

Gomer

Can we keep this in a single newsgroup, please?

Hi Brian,

Please excuse my NG ignorance...but what do you mean by keeping this "in a
single newsgroup"?

thanks,

Tim

Haven't you and I been discussing this same thnig in another newsgroup (i.e.
microsoft.public.outlook)? It sure looks like the same issue to me, but it
was posted by (e-mail address removed) in that newsgroup. I just reviewed that
other thread and the posting was identical.

No, not me Brian. I've never been to that NG...until now. I just checked but
could not find the thread you referred to. Maybe it's too old for my reader
to download (I'm not a newsreader guru so I'm not sure how to get all
messages...I use Windows Mail). Besides, if that was me, then I would have
been having a conversation with myself in this thread. But I guess stranger
things have happened in NG-land ;-)

It's apparent that I was confused. You entered this thread in response to
the original from gomertrash and I got mixed up thinking you were the
original poster, when it was gomer who multiposted. Sorry about that.

No problem, Brian ;-)

Doesn't look like this issue was ever resolved. Has anyone found a fix for
this? Is MS looking at this at all? This is "conveniently" only happening
on my boss' computer ... so when that happens i catch crap for it. OL2007,
Exchange Server 2003 (cached mode).

Thanks,
