Outlook 2007 doesn't show new email in the inbox until refreshed

Using Office 2007 and in Outlook I can see that I have new mail as there is a
number next the Inbox label - Inbox (9). But the messages are not listed in
the inbox. I must refresh by going to Calendar and back to Mail. Once I do
that the messages appear

Exchange or not?

If you mean

Right Click
Customise current view
Reset current View

then I just tried it, and it made no difference. A colleague has the
same problem. Only two of us running 2007 for now, so no one else we
can compare it with,

Any other ideas?

Using the default view. I haven't customized a thing. I did run the Office
Diagnostics under the Help menu and that didn't fix the issue.

What about starting Outlook with the /cleanviews command line switch? Also
make sure your firewall isn't blocking UDP packets because the symptoms you
describe are often caused by Exchange not being able to update Outlook (it
uses UDP for that). See this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/839226/en-us

Hi Brian

I tried support article suggestion, and Outlook already had firewall
access. No luck there.
I tried /cleanviews, no luck, as I had no custom views.
I tried a new profile, no luck either.

When i set a rule to display a notification when mail arrives from the
Exchange Server into the .pst file, the notification displays. Still,
in the Inbox, it seems as the Inbox window does not refresh. In the
Folder View I will see (1) to indicate a new mail, but I have to click
on another folder, then go back to the Inbox to see the mail. As I
said, it's not only me that sees this problem.

Thanks

I'm stumped. Sorry.

I am having the same problem, I am running Outlook 2007 but am not
connected to an exchange server. I have multiple accounts dumping into
this one pst file. All folders that directly receive mail have this
problem.

Like ray, I am experiencing the same problem and am not connected to
an exchange server.
I stumbled upon the refresh technique of clicking some other folder
then back to the Inbox somehow.
Seems like a show stopper bug to me.

I just reloaded Outlook2007 and it worked for a week or so and now it
is back to the way it was not showing new messages

I had the same issue only in some folders, especially new ones I created....
I could the folder as Bold saying I had 3 items in it... but I could'nt see
them... This is how I fixed it... In the Web tool bar... click on Filter..
Click on the SQL Tab... Unselect the "Edit these criteria option button and
delete this line from the box above...

"urn:schemas:httpmail:read" = 1

Seems new folders are setup to show only read items... so if the Items are
Unread... they are not visible.

I am having the same problem as everyone else in this thread. I did check
the instructions offered but I did not have any of the same conditions as
were noted.

It is as though there is some odd rule set or something similar. I have
reviewed all of the rules and there was only one set. Something about
removing the category for all received emails (recommended). I unchecked
that rule and it did not seem to change this issue.

To do the refresh to see the email in the inbox, I click on the "Unread
Mail" folder and then come back to the inbox and it displays ok, until the
next email comes in.

I'm having exactly the same problem and its now getting really
annoying.

Just got a local pst file collecting from a couple of POP3
accounts ... there must be a proper solution? It seems like such a big
bug that it wasn't picked up in Beta testing otherwise...

Well, this problem did not happen until about a month after I
installed the full version of Office 2007. I received a free copy by
attenting a launch event for Vista that MS had in Phoenix.

I was using google desktop prior to my install of Office 2007 and when
Windows Desktop search loaded, I figured I would give it a try and
uninstalled GDT.

After a month, I was not happy with Windows Desktop search so I
uninstalled it. As soon as I did, this problem occured. I have
uninstalled, reinstalled, over installed, repaired Outlook as well as
reapplying all patches since Office was installed. No luck

I have searched and searched for a solution, none so far and I have
come across many posts about this issue, none of the fixes work. :(

Oh well.
