Outlook 2007 does not work after importing from another pst file

T

Trevor

I installed Vista Ultimate and am running Office 2007 Enterprise. All
updates done. I imported my old .pst file from my previous XP Pro
installation (copied it to the new hard drive). Since the import I cannot
get Outlook to react to the cursor and have to close it down via Task
Manager.

Any help appreciated.

As posted many times on this forum, you must not Import pst files because
importing can corrupt them. Copy the pst to your hard drive without
overwriting any outlook files. Then use File, Open OL Data File to open and
use it.

Thanks Mary but is there any other way I can solve the corruption by running
something like scanpst?

No, the only method for repairing a corrupt installation is to create a new mail profile. Control Panel->Mail Icon->Profiles->New. Do not copy the old corrupt profile. Configure your new mail profile to use your good .pst file.

| I have set up the new profile but I have a further problem -- my cursor
cannot access the Outlook screen -- it just does not show when you move it
into the Outlook window.

???

Even after creating new profile?

Yes. I even uninstalled Office 2007 and then reinstalled it but it did not
resolve the problem

That's not a good way to create a new mail profile. Use the Mail applet in
Control Panel.

In Outlook File-Open-Outlook Data file and navigate to where they reside...

File>Open>Outlook Data File from within Outlook is how you access other
PSTs. If you want to make one (or more) of those PSTs the active archive
PST, then modify the autoarchive settings on Tools>Options>Other>AutoArchive
to use one of them.

You can use Inbox Repair tool which is used to repair corrupted file
of pst. To run Inbox repair tool fallow the steps:

1. Click on start goes to the search then click on files or folders
option.
2. In search box type scanpst.exe.
3. Double click on the scanpst.exe file to open the inbox repair
tool.
4. Then enter the location of Pst file and its name or browse it for
the path.
5. Then start to repair.

This way you can repair your pst file. But if your file is badly
damaged you may not able to repair it. At that time you can use some
software. You can try a popular Outlook recovery tool called Advanced
Outlook Repair to repair your PST file. It is a powerful tool to
recover messages, folders and other objects from corrupt or damaged
Microsoft Outlook PST files.

Detailed information about Advanced Outlook Repair can be found at
http://www.datanumen.com/aor/

And you can just download a free demo version at http://www.datanumen.com/aor/aor.exe

Hope this is useful.
