Outlook reliably crashes when Dragon is started and one accesses the "text"
area of a message. It is 100%.

http://knowledgebase.nuance.com/view.asp?tnID=6816 might be it, so, are you
running Office 2007, or just Outlook? If just Outlook, is it an HTML
formatted message? Have you pinged Nuance tech support?

FH, I have the full Microsoft Office installation and XP Pro. I just left an
e-mail request for support at Nuance which publishes Dragon
NaturallySpeaking. An online search by Google reveals nothing about a crash
of this nature. Rather others seem to be able to use Dragon and Outlook at
the same time.

Anything you could such suggest to debug this issue would be appreciated.

FH, one more point. I have Dragon NaturallySpeaking 9.5 "preferred." On the
Nuance website they state that Dragon NaturallySpeaking 9 .0 "professional"
is designed to work with the full Microsoft Office suite. This seems to
suggest that you do not get full functionality of Dragon NaturallySpeaking
unless you upgrade to the "professional" version of the program. However I
would be surprised if Nuance issued a product that was incompatible with
Microsoft Office to the extent that the two or a least Outlook and Dragon
could not operate at the same time.

Sure, try changing the format of the message from HTML to Plain Text and see
if it still happens.

FH, it still crashes.

Well, if you go to Tools - Trust Center - Add-ins, does Dragon put anything
there? Disable it from there and see if it still crashes, but, basically,
wait to see what Nuance says, and otherwise, if it still crashes, do not run
Dragon NaturallySpeaking (or do not run Outlook).

You also might want to try their public forums:

FH, I disabled the Dragon NaturallySpeaking add-in as you suggested. Outlook
no longer crashes, but it "no longer" accepts dictation as well. This may be
manageable as one can dictate into a dictation box and transfer the dictation
into Outlook. That's all I really need anyway.

Thanks for your help.

Good luck with Nuance support. If you get it fixed, post on back with what
you did to fix it so that if anyone else ever comes across the problem, it
can be fixed.

You could try a Detect and Repair of Outlook, just as a lark. I'd be
surprised if it fixed it, but, it won't hurt, unless a key breaks off the
keyboard as you type it and the spring launches it into your eye.

I already ran the new Microsoft Office Diagnostics to no avail. I'll give it
another shot anyway and see if it helps. Ned
