Outlook 2007 causing computer to go into sleep mode

I am using a brand new computer with Vista 64, and office 2007. When I open
outlook 2007 and begin to type a message, my screen blanks and the computer
goes to sleep. I can wake it up, but it will shortly later go to sleep
again. I have altered the sleep settings in the control panel to "never"
and I also have flashed the bios (as recommended by HP Help), but it hasn't
fixed the issue. Anyone else have this problem or found a solution?

Good question. I notice that when MS Office Outlook is open that this is
the only time the computer goes to sleep. I have no hang issues, or other
software or hardware problems. I've found that it doesn't just happen when
composing a mail, but can also happen just when the program is open in the
background and I type other things - such as this reply to you. If MS
Outlook isn't open, then the computer does not go to sleep. It doesn't
happen all the time, but several times a day.

Interesting ;-)
Could you test it while running Outlook is Safe Mode?
Start-> Run; outlook.exe /safe
