Outlook 2007 can't open existing PST files

I have previously installed Office 2007 Beta 2 and used its version of
Outlook successfully with my existing PST files. I was running it under Vista
Beta 5613 and all worked well. Now I have installed Vista RC1, reinstalled
the same Office 2007 Beta, and Outlook 2007 will not open my existing PST
file. I get a message saying someting like "Errors were detected in the file,
use the inbox repair tool, etc etc." I get the same message when trying to
import the file from a new, working profile.
I have scanned the file using SCANPST, and there is nothing wrong with it.
It works perfectly in Outlook 2003. Why can't Outlook 2007 open it?

Quite a serious issue, because there is simply no point to using a new
version of Office that can't work with existing data.

Outlook 2007 can perfectly open pst-files from previous versions of Outlook.
Make sure the pst-file is on a read/write location and that the Read Only
file attribute isn't checked. Instead of importing use File-> Open-> Outlook
Data File.

Also note that you must install the Technical Refresh for Office 2007 Beta
2.

And hopefully you made a backup copy of your PST file before using Beta
2's scanpst.exe on it. Scanpst was still broken in Beta 2 and might have
really corrupted your file...

Maybe you can give me a hint on how to proceed. I am currently running WinXP
with Office07 BTR. All is find, very few issuses that i can not over come
and such.

The issue I do have is that when ever I defrag my drives with Diskeeper I
get an error the next time i open up my Outlook. It says I have an error in
my PST and run the ScanPST.exe. OK i can live with that, for now with Beta
software. But after it scans it finds its issues I lose quite abit of data.
I lose my entire calender and contacts. Also random emails. Any ideas on
this one? By the way I do backup my PST every day so I am able to recover
with a merge.

I run Diskeeper every night on my PST as well, but nothing goes wrong.
Run chkdsk on all your harddrives. I'd bet you have some hard drive
errors. Then fix your pst.

Thanks for the advice. I have only now got round to installing the technical
refresh.
The first time I ran Outlook, it worked for a few moments, then popped up a
message saying "Outlook has stopped working" (Great!)
I restarted it and it appeared to be OK. When I tried to open my old PST
file, I got the same error as previously, namely: "Errors have been detected
in the file, etc"
By the way, I used the older version of scanpst to check under Windows XP,
and once again it tells me NO Errors.
So I am stuck. I cannot use Outlook 2007 with my old data. Does anybody know
how to fix this?

Thanks,
Ken
