OUtlook 2007 beta Problems

After compacting my mailbox (successfully, I thought)- I clicked on another
folder, & Outlook stopped responding, shut down and when it restarted I got
the message : "Cannot start Outlook. Cannot open Outlook Window. The set of
folders cannot be opened . The file C:\ . . . Outlook3.pst is not a personal
folders file."

I've tried running Office diagnostics & system restore to no avail. I've
also tried running OPPLUS-EN.EXE again but both repair & uninstall fail -
actually repair failed for me before this all happened because Outlook was
starting up very slowly & occasionally not responding (especially when I was
selecting multiple messages for deletion).

My other Office programs seem OK - other than being unable to install
BCM-EN.EXE - but that's 2ndary at the moment.

To add insult to injury - I just had to recompose this whole post because
the 1st try failed (I ought to know to at least save it to my clipboard)

Anyone who can help gets a neew friend for life :)

Thanx!

Sounds like a beta problem.
Hopefully it will be fixed before the product is ready for use in the real
world.

outlook3.pst? Can you point outlook to the .pst you want to open and have
it open it as a secondary personal folder file?

After furious head scratching, Bruin asked:

I hope this isn't a repost!
Should I be leaving the entire thread in each post?

Outlook3 is (was?) my default mail folder at this point.
When I go to Data File Management > Data Files > Personal Folders - settings
I get error code 0x80040119 for outlook3.pst while my archive and old backup
folders give me the expected dialog box.
I set up a new profile (as Milly suggested) and outlook opened fine but I
get the same message that outlook3.pst is not a personal folders file when I
try to import it.
Must be corrupted.
Isn't there a pst repair tool?
Might it work on 07 beta?
What happens if I can't uninstall and if I can - do I need my 03 pro disks?

That Milly is wise.

Corrupted is a reasonable description, I'd say.

scanpst.exe is located in \program files\microsoft
office\office12\scanpst.exe

It will prompt you for the .pst file to 'repair'. Normally, I would make a
copy of the file first.

No need to leave the entire post in your reply, only leave sufficient enough
content for the reader to understand the last part of the conversation.

It's a miracle!
scanpst.exe worked ;-)

It found and repaired the following errors:
Items needing repair: 3
Items not found: 81
Items without a folder: 0
Items without a folder will be placed in a folder named Lost & Found

Thank you so much!

Now I guess I need to:
1) check & see if Outlook is still doing it's occasional "not responding"
thing

2) see if I still have an issue with repairing with OPPLUS-EN.EXE - (if so I
expect I'll have probs uninstalling)

3) figure out why I can't install BCM. I'm thinking it's a .net or sql thing
- but since I only vaguely understand either . . . .

Thanx again!!!!!

When I do message searches in Outlook 2007 Beta - I get the error message:
The instruction at 0x600db609 referenced memory at 0x00000000. The memory
could not be read.

Anyone know what's happening here?

I would add to that list:

Make regular backups of my .pst file(s).

As to your other question, is it best to start a new thread.

With respect to making regular backups,I downloaded and tried running
Microsofts tool "pfbackup.exe" thats supposed to automate the process
of backing up ones .pst file.
Got a message during setup about setup expecting to see Outlook
2000,2003 or 2003 on my laptop.
Is there a version that will accept Outlook 2007 and install?
If there is where can one find it

OS: Windows Vista Beta 2 Build 5384
Office 2007 Beta 2 Kit 2007
