Outlook 2007 Address book Service

I'm running Outlook 2007 (part of MS Office) on Vista Ultimate, and cannot
get the adderess book to recognise the contacts folder - the tick box is
greyed out in the contacts>properties>OAB - I went to the Address Book
settings under account settings and checked I have the MAPI OAB in there
however it won't let me remove it to reinstate it, or in fact change it at
all. I've read through as many of the similar postings as possible but now am
stumped... any ideas?

If you have Contacts in the Contacts folder but they are not accessible when
you click on the To button, check these settings:

Make sure the Contact folder is enabled as an email address book. Right
click the Contacts folder, choose Properties then Outlook Address Book. Is
the box to enable as email address book is checked?

If this is grayed out...

Go to Tools | Email Accounts, choose View or change existing directories or
address book. Is the Outlook Address Book present? If it isn't listed, add
it and close and restart Outlook. If it is listed, then remove it and close
then restart Outlook and repeat these steps to add it.

If you are using Outlook 2007 and the the checkbox is grayed, you'll need to
make a new profile as you can't add the Outlook Address Book service due to
a bug.

You need a new mail profile.

Thanks Brian and Diane - I added a new profile and after a bit of faffing to
get the old data back it has all burst into life!
I would never have got there on my own...

So what happens when you click To or the Address Book icon on the Standard
toolbar when composing?

I have an empty address book. I am not able to find a way to add the address
book. I have used Outlook for 6 years and 2007 is different. No address books
in the drop down.

Did you configure the Outlook Address Book service in your mail profile?

I believe so. I selected Tools, Account Settings, Address Books. I selected
Outlook Address Book - MAPI, but I am not able to select a book, none
showing.

I also went to Contacts folder, selected Properties, Outlook Address Book.
It is grayed out and I cannot select. I noticed in 2007 that the Contacts
folder does not show up under personal folders in the mail view. Is that
correct.

After delecting my contacts after using the the Windows Transfer and
importing my pst file, at least I am able to sync with smartphone with
contacts and calendar.

Just not able to connect my contacts for email addressing?!?!?

Please advise of next step, appreciate your assistance

By employing the WET tool and because you imported, you have damaged your
mail profile and mist create a new one. The WET application always creates
a damaged mail profile and if you have an existing PST, there's no reason in
the world to import it. Just use it.

Start by creating a new mail profile and pointing it at the original PST.

Looks like there is not a mail option in the control panel of Vista to set up
a new profile. Where might that be in Vista? Thanks

I'll bet you have the 64 bit version. You must enable the 32 bit Control
Panel to see it.
