Outlook 2003

Michael Patterson

I am experiencing two problems:

1. When I open Outlook 2003, it begins to download my e-mails from my cable
provider. About a quarter of the way into downloading them, the process
stops and when I attempt to do anything (such as delete and e-mail, read an
e-mail) the screen goes gray and the program indiates "Outlook Has Stopped
Working" and then a box appears which indicated that Microsoft is trying to
fix the problem, which it never can, and then Outlook closes down). This
happens multiple times (perhaps 10-12) and then finally Outlook will load and
download all of the e-mails on my cable provider's server. This has only
started happening over just the past 2 months after having used Outlook 2003
for a very long time. Can you help with this problem?

2. I have, of course, a "Personal Folders" at the top of my "All Mail
Folders" section of Outlook 2003. In this area, under Personal Folders, I
have a number of sub-folders for individual persons in which I store active
e-mails. However, I have recently noted that also in the "Mail" Pane to the
left of the screen, at the very bottom, below my "Archive Folders" is yet
another "Personal Folders" which appears to be an exact duplicate of the one
at the top of the "Mail" pane. How can I get rid of the duplicate "Personal
Folders?" I have not just deleted the duplicate "Personal Folders" for I
fear that such an action may negative effect the main "Personal Folders" at
the top of the "Mail" pane. Can you assist with this issue as well?

Thanks and regards, Michael Patterson

Does it get hung on the same message every time? Perhaps there's a message
on the server that is causing problems.

Another thing to do is to uninstall your antivirus program and reinstall it
without any mail scanning feature. You're still just as protected but the
AV program won't be able to interfere with the mail downloading process.

This indicated you have a mail profile corruption, probably caused by
importing from a PST, which is never advised. See if this helps:

If not, you can always start over with a clean mail profile.
