outlook 2003

I have used outlook '03 for years on my Comapaq Presario. On my Dell Inspiron
it had started to jam, and now will not work at all. Dell help on line tells
me that it is Microsoft's problem - it's not their software, Dell only
installed it. Microsoft tells me that they will charge for looking at the
problem.

I have the discs for Microsoft Office Basic 2007 and for Microsoft Business
Contact Manager for Microsoft Office Outlook , that I received from Dell.

I also have Vista, also sent by Dell, but have not installed it yet.

I could install both Microsoft Basic 2007 for Business and Microsoft
Business Contact Manager for Microsoft Office Outlook, but I am not sure that
would solve the problem and I also wonder if I will loose all of the email
addreses.

I realise the solution is now on my own head, but would appreciate advice.

"Outlook 2003 with Business Contact Manager" may be your other disk, but not
"Business Contact Manager for Microsoft Office Outlook". BCM is not
available separately. Do you really need the BCM portion of Outlook? Since
Office 2007 Basic includes Outlook 2007, why not use that? I can't find any
reference on Microsoft's Office site that mentions "Office 2007 Basic for
Business".

You shouldn't lose data no matter what you do, but make a backup of your
PST(s) before doing anything. I think if I were in your shoes, I'd
uninstall Office altogether, install Outlook 2003 with Business Contact
manager, then install the rest of Office 2007 Basic.

Brian:

Thank you for replying so quickly.

I received two CDs from Dell, both in a single carboard CD case. One is
labelled "Microsoft Basic 2007," the other "Business Contact Manager for
Microsoft Office Outlook 2007," with a sub heading "Disc 2, version 2007"
These are what I have to work with.

My Office 2003 program is not working at all, so I guess I might just as
well go ahead and start by installing Microsoft Basic 2007. However, you
mention I should back up my PST's. Unfortunately, I don't know what these are
or how to go about backing them up. Perhaps you could point me in the
direction of a site for getting the information?

Thanks,

Flyboy

Who knows, then, what these disks contain? Certainly there is no such
product as "Microsoft Basic 2007" that I'm aware.
