Outlook 2003 - you have exceeded the size limit on you mailbox

J

John Bowden

I have a user with a mailbox of over 4GB in size. Currently he is running on
a desktop computer with no cache (OST). He has a new laptop computer and I've
set up Outlook 2003 on it. After changing the settings, Outlook went about
creating the OST file and then the message came up.
I've checked this site and there are different links all over the place but
this should be a relatively easy fix (I'm thinking) but I guess not.
On exchange, I have not set any restrictions and we are under the 16GB limit.

I found a document on the MS web site http://support.microsoft.com/kb/832925
How to configure the size limit for both (.pst) and (.ost) files in Outlook
2007 and in Outlook 2003

I've set the PST registry entries to the maximum but I still get the same
message when I start Outlook on his laptop

Thanks in advance for the help
John

I'm faced with the same issue. The user that I'm working with is right at
the 2Gb limit. I thought that Outlook 2003 by default had a limitation to
20Gb apparently that's not the case. I did the same thing that you have done
and I'm still experiencing the same results. He send email and he receives
email but the emai disappears due to the limitation.

If you have found an answer to this problem other than creating a new
profile please let me know.

It does if it's the new Unicode-format pst file. If it's a legacy pst file
from a previous version, then no, the 2GB limit still exists...

The PST itself is what contains the limitation. ANSI PSTs have a 2 GB
limit. Unicode PSTs have the initial 20 GB limit. Convert the ANSI PST to
a Unicode PST in Outlook 2003 and you'll be all set. The method is easily
found in these groups with Google Groups.
