Outlook 2003 won't close

I run XP Pro and Office 2003. I have the latest updates. Suddenly the first
instance of openeing Outlook will not open the inbox. I then open a second
time and it is fine. However the first instance of Outlook remains and I
cannot close it. Any bright ideas?

Look for 3rd party applications/addins that use/protect Outlook data. (For
example, do you see the same issue if you start outlook with the /safe
command line switch.)
