Outlook 2003 with Exchange 5.5

I'm having a number of issues using Outlook 2003 (on my laptop) with
Exchange 5.5. I'm running Win XP Pro. I'm also downloading email from
a number of pop3 accounts so I'd like to have everything in the inbox.
My local .pst file is of the new 2003 format. I have all the patches
installed. I'm have Norton Internet Security/Norton Antivirus and all
these problems occur when they are both disabled.

- When I start Outlook, it downloads 2 emails and then freezes for a
while (1-3 minutes) and then keeps on downloading and works fine.
People have reported this before, but I haven't seen a solution yet.

- Mail that get downloaded from Exchange automatically gets moved to a
local PST file. This seems to also happen when I accept a Meeting
request. However, when anyone tries to view my calendar they can't see
any of the meetings. Is there a way to get my personal calendar to
replicate back to Exchange? This seems to happen automatically for
people running Outlook 2000 in the same environment.

- I can't seem to use a local "contacts" folder in the Address Book. I
go in the Options menu and add the Contacts folder from my local Pst
file, but when I try to open it I get this error "The address list could
not be displayed. The Contacts folder associated with this address list
count not be opened...". I've tried to remove it and then adding it
again but to no avail...

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

I haven't seen this, but I don't use this configuration, so I'm not the best
one to try to answer it!

Then it sounds like they aren't using a PST file for delivery - they're
delivering to the Exchange mailbox. There's no built-in syncing between PST
file and calendar folder - any reason you're using a PST file for delivery?
This is not usually recommended - if you keep everything in the mailbox,
your data can be accessed from other computers & from OWA, can be backed up
centrally on the server, you can share folders, etc..... since you're on a
laptop, you can connect directly to the Exchange mailbox & either use cached
mode for offline use or set up an OST file so you can take your data with
you.

Go to tools, email accounts, view/change address books, go to the properties
of the Outlook address book service, and delete what you see in there. Then
right click on your contacts folder in the folder list view, properties,
outlook address book, and tick the box. Does that help?

Everyone is setup with a local PST, not sure why... The strange thing
is that the Exchange calendar/emails seems to get synced up with the
local folders for Outlook 2000 users. I spoke to the admin guy about
what he had done to set that up and said that he had done nothing and
that he was really surprised about the auto-sync. Very strange...

If I use Exchange as my main mailbox, my pop email would also get copied
to the server?

Yes, that fixed it! Thanks!!!! This has been driving me nuts for a
month!!!

There is no native way to sync PSTs to mailbox folders. Perhaps you have an
add-in doing it. I would strongly suggest you ditch using PST files as your
default store - see http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq_appxf.htm for
some reasons why.

Not copied, but downloaded and then stored in your mailbox, yes.

Glad to help !
