Outlook 2003 (Windows XP) won't Send or Receive

Testing the email accounts works perfectly in the "Add/Change" email account
setup. However, I receive the following error message each time I try to
send or receive:

"The operation failed. An object could not be found."

Pretty cryptic.

Sorry, I've no idea what MAPI or OAB are. This is a home user scenario. I
also tried upgrading to Outlook 2007, and Outlook 2007 give me the exact same
"The operation failed. An object could not be found." error message when I
try Send or Receive.

Hi,

Outloo use MAPI protocol to communication with Exchange.

OAB is Offline Address Book that downloaded version of your Global Address
List etc... to local machine, allowing you to browse through company address
book while offline.

If you do use exchange server in your enviroment, it seem most likely that
your address book is missing. That why when you Send/Receive, an object can
not be found.

You can do a simple steps to see anything wrong with GAL by going to
Outlook, Tools, Send and Receive, download Offline address book.

If you're using a free email account (for example Hotmail), then you can try
to create a new profile by go to Control Panel, Mail, Show Profiles, Add
new profile. Change option to be prompted for which profile to be used. Open
Outlook again and choose that new profile, continue to set up your email
account.

This is a home computer. There isn't any Global Address book because it is
not connected to my employer. The download Offline Address Book which you
refer to below doesn't exist in this environment.

I receive emails via my ISP which is Cox.net. I think it's referred to as
Internet Mail. It's a POP3 account type.

I've deleted my email account and recreated it a few times but still get
"The operation failed. An object couldn not be found" error message when I
try to Send and Receive.

Umm,

You can do a simple step to see if Outlook is corrupted.

Set up your POP3 account in Outlook Express and see if problem comes up.

If it does not, most likely your Outlook is corrupted. Clear up all profile,
un-install and re-install it. Of course you can backup your existing emails
to pst file before delete whole thing.

You're a genius! Deleting the existing profile and then opening a new
profile with the same name (and then reimporting messages and contacts from
my backup) restored everything.

There was no need to import anything. You just open the existing PST(s) in
the new mail profile.Importing ALWAYS loses some data.

I kept getting the same error message until I deleted the profile AND the
PSTs and then created a new profile. I was hoping that by importing the
contacts and messages from a PST backup I could avoid a corrupted PST (which
is pretty common).

PST corruption is not common. Moreover, PST corruption is likely to render
the PST unusable or, at least, lose some of the data. There's nothing wrong
with starting with a fresh PST, but you still shouldn't import. Open the old
PST and copy the items in each of its folders to the corresponding folders in
the new PST.

No doubt you're correct, however PST corruption has been pretty common in my
experience. In my last job, my team was 15 laptop users all working
remotely. In a year's time, all 15 had PST corruption problems in Outlook.

Since there was no way to identify which message might have corrupted the
PST, our IT group had us delete the PST folders and import messages from a
back-up. That's how I knew to do it this time. What I learned from Tran,
was that I also may need to delete the email profile too.

I appreciate your help, this is a great forum!

And that's not a correct approach, as I said. Your IT group is misleading
you. Open the backup, don't import from it.

: I am having this problem with Outlook 2003 with Windows
XP. When I test my email accounts (3 in all) with my ISP server , I get the
nice green check marks that the send and receive to POP and SMTP are OK and a
test message is sent to my ISP . ....but Outlook 2003 will not send or
receive an email. The emails just sit there and when I hit send/receive
nothing happens and no
error messages. I know the test email was sent Ok because I see it when I
check on a different computer.

I have tried everything including reinstallng Outlook 2003 (Office 2003),
disabling my Norton 360, running in safe mode, changing every setting
possible, and still messages sit in the outbox. Before all the problems, I
did have to do a repair on Windows XP because of a boot up problem with
Windows.

About ready to give up on Outlook 2003 and just starting using my ISP
provider (Cox) for getting emails...because that is where I can actually see
the test messges were sent.

Any suggestions?
