Outlook 2003 will no longer update ?

Tim

I have an issue with Outlook 2003 not being able to be updated via Windows
Update. Consensus of my Google searches say it is probably a registry error
problem.

Any attempt to update Outlook 2003, either manual...from widows update site,
or XP automatic, results and a "can not update" error. The current file not
updating is the latest Junk Mail filter.

I can not repair via Help-update and repair in OL 2003 or the Office
Professional Edition 2003 CD. Both fail...Tried to uninstall just Outlook
from the CD and that too failed.

Either way I get the following error about have way through the "detect and
repair":
"Microsoft Office Professional Edition Setup failed"

Same error if I try "detect and repair" from other Office Pro apps.

All other Microsoft updates seem to be installing OK with no issues..either
automatic or manually ?
please help !

Thanks, Tim

Try the below and see if it solves you issue. Let us know

1st Rename Office subkeys

Note: Removing the following registry keys may reset customized user
settings for your Microsoft Office programs.

1. Close all the applications.
2. Click on Start->Run, type in REGEDIT and click on OK.
3. Locate and select the following registry subkeys:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0

4. Right click on 11.0 and rename them to Old11.
5. Close the Registry Editor.

2nd. Detect and Repair Office 2003

1. On the Windows taskbar, click Start, point to and click Control Panel.
2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
3. Click Change/Remove Programs on the left pane.
4. Highlight Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 on the right pane
and click Change.
5. Insert the correct version of CD when it requires.
6. Select “Reinstall and Repair” and click Next.
7. Select “Detect and Repair errors in my Office installation”.
8. Click Install and wait the process to end.

3rd. Install the Updates

Peter...thanks so much...worked fine and didn't loose any settings ! Can't
tell you how many scary methods that were recommended prior to posting here.

Two other questions...1) I now have 2 personal folders upon OL startup. How
do I get rid of the second one ? and 2) do I delete the Old11 entries in
both registry keys ?

A search of my system shows 2 outlook.pst files in the RECYCLERS folder ?

Thanks again...Tim

You only have one pst file from what I see in the attachment. The other 2 in the
Recycler are ready to go when emptying the Recycle Bin. No problem
