I apologize - I finally figured out why your new question for new thread
window would not open. WIE was blocking it. I apologize for the earlier
incorrect post.

My problem.
My Outlook 2003 will no longer open. I get the Microsoft window box that
says: "Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Unable to open the Outlook
window. The set of folders could not be opened. The server is not available
(not true). Contact your administrator if this condition persists."

It persists and I need help ASAP

Control Panel->Mail icon->Remove the Exchange service. Back up and install your POP3 or IMAP account. If that does not fix the problem, try a new mail profile.

Thank you for your reply but it is a little too cryptic for my experience.
I went to Control Panel->Mail icon-> and that's where I am stymied. Which
one is the Exchange service - my ISP? or my web site email? Are you saying
back up the entire Outlook data, which one is my POP3 or IMAP account? and
then what do you mean by trying a new mail profile? I realize you must want
to pull your hair when dealing with this type of inexperience, but I sure do
appreciate your patience.

If you don't see an account that says "Microsoft Exchange Server" (or some
account with the work "Exchange" in its name), then you don't have an
Exchange account. Milly suggested that because the message you described
indicated an attempt to connect to an Exchange server.

When you say that the server is available, which server do you mean? And
please explain your use of the term "web site email". What type(s) are
listed for these two accounts?

Once you have the mail icon open, select email accounts. Highlight Exchange and click on remove. Go back one window and use Add->POP3 or IMAP, whichever your ISP gives you. Use the credentials that they supplied to fill in the rest.

Brian,
I don't see anything that says "microsoft Exchange Server" or any account
with the word "Exchange" in it.

When I wrote that my server was available, I meant my ISP server, I am on
satellite internet, but I am not on any net setup.

The term "my web site email" was referring to the email address for my web
site thru my hosting company. When I go into the Control Panel->mail icon->
the program gives me a window with 3 choices, which are:
1) E-mail Accounts 2) Data Files 3) Profiles. I chose 1) email accounts.
It took me to a wizard that allowed me to choose the option View or change
existing email accounts. That took me to the E-mail Accounts window that
says "Outlook processes e-mail for these accounts in the following order:
mail.xxxxxxxxxxx.com POP/SMTP (default) my
website & pages
mail.wildlue.net POP/SMTP my
Satellite ISP

I hope this help you figure out what the problem is so that I can resolve
the problem.
Thank you

If Outlook won't start and your accounts are just two POP accounts, then I'd
delete the file
%AppData%\Microsoft\Outlook\outcmd.dat and try Outlook again. If that
doesn't work, I'd start with a new mail profile (Control Panel>Mail>Show
Profiles>Add), using the Data Files button to point the new profile at your
existing PST.
