Outlook 2003 vs. Outlook 2007

At the risk of getting flamed for asking a FAQ, I would like to know
people's opinions on which version of Outlook I should install. I have
scanned the last 500 messages or so, googled the subject, and though I am
sure this issue has been addressed many times, I don't see anything
current...or definitive.

Background: I have been doggedly using Outlook Express for the last 15 years
or so, and hated Outlook the one time I tried it many years ago...it was way
slow (perhaps it was Outlook 2000). I am also hanging on to XP and resisting
Vista because I have three machines with XP installed, two are laptops of
which will not run Vista, with slower processors and maxed out at 512 RAM..
Also with OE replaced from Vista, and apparently dropped from Windows 7,
plus a few other factors is forcing me to think about migrating to Outlook.
I sync the three machines by switching out the message store from my main
machine to my two laptops periodically, and keep that message store on a
separate data partition on each machine. I am one of those "if it ain't
broke, don't fix it" sort of people that is still running Office 2000 on
each machine, though I have legal copies of Office 2003 and 2007, plus free
standing copies of Outlook 2003 and 2007. I am not enamored with the idea
of learning the new ribbon in Office 2007, thus am reluctant to use Word
2007. I also just moved to a company that uses Outlook Exchange, but I think
I still prefer a local message store and am not convinced I want to use
Exchange to sync the computers. I have broadband at the office, but am
forced to get by with a dial-up connection at my home office.....another
reason I am not thrilled with the idea of using exchange. This also means
that I use OE for NNTP newsgroups and avoid forums like the plague,
especially MSFT forums.

Given that I have enough copies of both Office 2003 and 2007, plus the free
standing versions of Outlook 2003 and 2007, what combination of Outlook with
what components of Office would give me the most stable, easiest to use, and
best combination? Which version of Outlook do people prefer?

I have read quite a bit, but I am just not getting anywhere in making a
decision on what version to use, and hope someone who has been using Outlook
2007 for a while after using Outlook 2003 can share their experience and
opinions. Also what other considerations am I missing.

Thanks.

Given what you've said, I'd recommend Office 2003.
