I made a backup of 2003 data, realized it wasn't in right format, unicode,
then redid it into 1997-2002.
Copied it to 2002 computer.
If I click on it separately, it says it isn't a valid win32 application.
If I try to import it into outlook, it says it isn't a pst file.
Does this mean I didn't do backup properly?

Save the file to your HDD, right-click on it, choose Properties and remove
the Read-Only attribute if its set. Then open Outlook and do
File-Open-Outlook Data File and navigate to where you saved the file to.
Does that help?

I copied it to HDD, no read only attributes on it, when I do file open data
file, it says .pst file isn't a personal folder file

Did you copy it from the other machine with outlook still open? If so it's
probably corrupted. Have you run the scanpst tool on a COPY of it?

Not sure if outlook was open, anyways I ran scanpst.exe on the file and it
found two errors and then I did file import/export and got past the previous
roadblock and it allowed me to browse pick the file, but then another import
personal folder comes up with only recovered personal folders as my choice,
when I click it nothing happens?

All the advice ever given in this group is NEVER to import a pst file! In
Outlook go to File-Open-Outlook Data File.

ok, i do file open data file and click on the file i want to open and outlook
opens with outlook:\\recovered personal folders in address book,
But there is nothing there, sorry for the constant problems, I am really
confused now. I just want to view emails from my work computer, which
normally isn't a problem, except I was laid off and would like to get some
emails from this pst file.
thanks.
