Confused Outlook User

I have inserted the Home Phone column into the Tasks window of Outlook 2003,
and have added a particular task to a contact, anticipating that, because the
contact is linked to the task, the contact's Home Phone should display in the
Home Phone column in the Tasks window (so I don't have to switch from Tasks
to Contacts to look up their phone number when the task is "call Joe"). but
the column is blank. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong - why isn't the
contact's Home Phone (or any field from Contacts put in as a column in the
Tasks window) showing in the Tasks window when the task has been linked to
the contact?
