outlook 2003 - systray icon doesn't respond

I have just upgraded to office/outlook 2003, and that pesky systray
icon that it installs will not open outlook when i click it. it will
just give me an error message saying:

"Outlook is not responding. If you are using an Exchange server e-mail
account, you can cancel pending server requests by clicking the
Outlook icon in the notifications area, and then clicking Cancel
Server Request on the shortcut menu."

I am not using exchange (only pop). for now, i have unchecked the
"show network warnings" and "show network connectivity changes"
options when you click that icon. it still won't open outlook, but it
will not pop up those errors anymore. what's the problem? there are
no updates for outlook. i've tried uninstalling reinstalling,
deleting my profile and reinstalling etc...

help me?

thanks

I am having the same problem. Outlook won't shutdown.
When I click to close outlook via the "x" button the
window closes but the icon in the systray is still there.
I get the same error message. In the task
manager/processes it shows outlook.exe as running and the
only way to shutdown outlook is through the task manager
and thus I get a windows error box.
Please help us.
