Outlook 2003 Spam folder vs Junkmail folder

We just got a new cpu with the newest version of Outlook 2003 on it, and it
has both a junkmail folder and a new spam folder.

I don't quite understand the function of the spam folder.

I have worked with the junk mail folder for a couple years, and know you can
empty it enmasse.

But this new Spam folder - there's no choice to empty it - just to delete it.

How is this folder supposed to work in conjunction with the Junkmail folder?
Isn't junkmail spam and vice versa?

The Spam folder isn't an Outlook feature. It's either from an add-in for
Outlook or from an anti-spam program on your mail server.

If memory serves me correctly, I believe Trend Micro server-based antispam
products (like Trend CSM Security Suite) insert a "Spam" folder into each
Outlook user's folder tree. And yes, I as well have noticed no way to just
"empty" it, other than moving the messages to the Junk Mail folder and
emptying them from there.
