Outlook 2003 shut down problem

Hi,
I recently upgraded to Office 2003 from Office XP. Now I
have major problems with Outlook 2003. When I "close"
Outlook 2003, the application still seems to run in the
background and it does close properly. The icon remains
in the task bar (although it does not respond when
clicked). When Windows Task Manager is opened, Outlook
2003 does not appear in the "Applications" tab, but it is
still visible in the "Processes" tab. When Microsoft
Office Application Recovery is opened, Outlook 2003 still
appears there as running. Closing it using Microsoft
Office Application Recovery does not work. "Re-opening"
Outlook 2003 after I have "closed" it causes major
problems - Outlook 2003 completely freezes and does not
respond. In this case, both Windows Task Manager and
Microsoft Office Application Recovery show multiple
copies of Outlook 2003 to be running. When I shut down
my PC, a window appears saying that
the "CiceroUIWndFrame" application is in the process of
closing and saving settings - but it does not, and I have
to shut in down completely, else my PC cannot shut down.

Any ideas what is the problem?
Thanks,
Marco

Follow up:
A previous email on this site, where someone also had a
problem with Outlook 2003 remaining in memory, suggested
uninstalling Symantex Winfax. I have Winfax, and when I
tried to uninstall, I got a message saying that
the "WFXUNIST.ISU" file was corrupted, and so the Windows
Add/Remove Programs application could not uninstall it.
Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Marco

Yes Symantec is at it again with their ultra cool crap ware. One thing
you could try is to install the program and uninstall it. But it
probably will tell you that the program already resides on the machine
and that you can't do that until you uninstall it. So, you're in a
quandry. Here's what Symantec suggests (BTW, Winfax 10-10.02 seems
incompatible as ol heck with MS Outlook, even though it's supposed to
be integrated with it). Here's what they say:

Error: "Uninstaller failed to initialize. You may not be able to
uninstall the program." when installing

Situation:
During installation from the CD, you receive the following error
message: "Uninstaller failed to initialize. You may not be able to
uninstall the program."

Solution:
This could be caused by a corrupted Wfxunist.isu file. Rename the file
and reinstall WinFax PRO/TalkWorks PRO.

Click Start, point to Find and click Files or Folders. The Find dialog
box appears.
Select the drive on which you installed WinFax PRO/TalkWorks PRO from
the Look In drop-down list.
In the Named field, type wfxunist.isu and click Find Now. Windows will
find and display all files matching your search criteria in the lower
half of the Find dialog box.
Highlight the file and choose Rename from the File menu. A flashing
cursor appears in the filename field.
In the filename field, type wfxunist.old and press Enter.
Close the Find dialog box.
Reinstall WinFax PRO/TalkWorks PRO in the same folder. This will
create a new uninstall log file.

If you continue to experience problems during installation, repeat the
steps above using the file names wfxboot.ini and wfxinst.log

Thanks for the link Steven. I had a similar problem with MS Outlook,
and followed the steps provided by Symantec. Backed up registry,
booted in safe mode and deleted Winfax entries. WHAA LAA ! No more
WinFax. Although I'm always scared of editing the registry...sigh!

You may find you have to manually uninstall winfax pro 10 to solve
this crisis. Here's their instructions

You many find other sites giving you instructions on this by searching
for manually uninstall winfax pro 10.0x
