Outlook 2003 sending email not shown in outbox

I have Outlook 2003 Prof. Edit. and received a request for a Read Receipt.
Clicked OK to send Read Receipt. Then received request for Read Receipt 3
more times for same email and clicked OK each time. Now Outlook is trying to
regularly send an email without any email showing as waiting in Outbox.
