Outlook 2003: RTF-to-HTML table conversion

Despite of the fact that both formats, RTF and HTML do support tables,
Outlook 2003 does not seem to support the conversion of
tables when sending to Internet users.

So, for instance, when creating a RTF signature using a table, the table
formating
gets lost after Outlook transforms the message into HTML (for Internet users).

(We use Outlook in conjunction with Exchange 2003 SP2.)

Any solution known for that?

I posted this question in the Exchange Client forum as well, and I think, in
the meantime I found an explanation (both, sending and receiving client were
Outlook 2003, SP3).

("Understanding Interoperability Between Exchange Server 2003 and
Non-Exchange Messaging Systems") states RTF-to-HTML conversion is not working
correctly for tables created within Rich-Text messages (it took me some time
to find that article...). So this seems to be a real limitation for
Outlook/Exchange 2003.

Interesting. I wonder what "Do not convert correctly" means and how much (if
any) applies to Exchange 2007 as table layout is fine when sent to internet
accounts that don't use outlook. Table border colors are light gray instead
of dark, but the cells are perfect.

With Exchange 2003 you loose the whole table, only character formatting is
kept (font, size, bold). If you still have a HTML table with Exchange 2007, I
guess the RTF-to-HTML conversion code was improved there.

The whole thing probably looks different when Outlook is running without
Exchange as Outlook then has to make with the conversion itself.

Sending through outlook with a pop account has table borders and no cell
padding/tighter cells - it converts it pretty much exactly, except the cells
are smaller. Exchange 2007 handles it ok, save for the light table
borders - keeping the cell content aligned is more important IMHO than
borders.
