[Outlook 2003] Reply to external email - Error relay

R

Richard Martin

Hi,

I have outlook 2003 installed and we are using Microsoft Exchange and
Pop3/smtp server account
Those 2 server are configured on my outlook.

When I receive e-mail from poeple in my office, I can reply to them with no
problem. But when
I receive e-mail from external user, when I do a reply, I receive this error
: 501 5.7.1 This system is not
configured to relay mail from (e-mail address removed) to (e-mail address removed) for
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.

I know that when I reply to external user, I just have to change the account
(Microsoft exchange) to send the mail and its
working fine. But I would like to know if there is an option so I'm always
sending email with exchange
account and not POP3/smpt account ?

Thanks a lot

Richard

Often, your Exchange server offers an SMTP server as well. I have an
Exchange account and a POP account and for outgoing SMTP server for the POP
account, I point to the Exchange server's SMTP service.

For example, my POP account is using "yahoo.com" as the domain name in the
email address. However, I have "usmail.smithsexchange.tld" (an internal
address only) as the SMTP server. Thus, even though the outgoing mail
appears to come from Yahoo!, it's being routed through the Exchange server.
