Outlook 2003 Read-Only Attachments

A group of my users experience issues opening attachments in Outlook 2003.
They are accustomed to opening attachments from the preview pane in Outlook
XP without these items coming up in read only.

Currently the attachments read directly come up fine. Those from preview
panes come up read only. Is there any way (programmatic or application
settings) to override this Outlook 2003 behaviour? I hate the thought of
migrating them back a version, but this will be an extreme annoyance to
management level employees who are accustomed to quick and easy attachment
editing and routing.

No, not possible. Why bother? If they weren't read only they would be
storing them in a Temp folder just waiting to get lost. Since they are
read-only they are prompted to save it outside the temp folder.
