Hi,

I have an interesting problem where I have to transfer the PA's outlook data
from a newer PC that's been re-allocated, to an older PC with Outlook 2000
only.

Outlook 2000 does not want to open the Outlook 2003 .pst file and says that
its not compatible.....

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

You need to copy the Outlook 2003 pst file items to an Outlook 97/2002
compatible pst. This can only be done with Outlook 2003. (See file | new |
outlook data file to create a Outlook 97/2002 pst file.)

Thanks, I tried that the first time - before I posted. I tried it again after
I posted, and still no luck. But, third time lucky, the Outlook 2000 pc
accepted it.

Thanks for help though...

Further, is it correct that the Backup PST Utility does NOT create a
backup that is compatible with 97-02?

Excellent question, never used this utility. Let me see if I can get
another MVP into the mix that has.

According to Diane, the backup utility copies the existing PST. Therefore
if you are using a PST that is Outlook 97/2002 format, the utility shouldn't
introduce any compatibility problems.
