Outlook pst file compatability

I currently use MS office and Outlook 2000 on 3 PCs. I would like to install
Office 2007 on 2 of the PCs. I also currently copy my outlook pst file from
my main PC to the other 2 to read / access the contact and calendar functions.
Is the outlook 2007 pst file compatable with the office 2000 version?
Ie., can I copy an outlook 2007 pst file to an outlook 2000 PC and be able
to read / use the pst file?

Are word and excel files on office 2007 back compatable to office 2000? If I
create a word file or excel file in the office 2007, will office 2000 or
other office version prior to 2007 be able to read it, like other users I
send files to?

PST file compatibility - As long as you use the Outlook 97-2002 Personal
Folder file format, yes, its backward compatible. If you use the new format
which is the default, then no.

As for Word and Excel files, couple of options here.

1) If your Office 2000 apps have a minimum of Office 2000 service pack 3
installed, then you can install/use the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack
for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats.

or

2) In Office 2007 apps, reconfigure the default save type to save the file
to a legacy file type. Just be aware that when you save to a legacy type,
that features that are specific to 2007 will be stripped from the document.

Thanks for the help Neo. re outlook 97-2002 file format in outlook 2007. If
the new format is the default how do I change outlook 2007 to the 97-2002
format?

Re office 2000 mine is the original ie., no service packs applied. Can I
just install SP3 or do I need to install SP1, SP2 and SP3 then the MS offcie
compatibility pack

File > New > Outlook Data File and then you get the option of what type of
PST file to create.

According to the download page, you need to have Office 2000 Service Release
1/1a in order to install SP3.
