Outlook 2003 - Problem with sending from Gmail Account

I have 2 email accounts going through my Outlook Setup (XP - 2003) I have my work account which works grand & my gmail account which keeps stalling on me. When I log in, I can send the 1st gmail email grand, sometimes I can send a 2nd & third. All of a sudden I can't send anything. I can always use my work account address. If I shut down Outlook & restart I can keep sending more mails from both accounts until the problem with the gmail account starts again. The problem appears to be with Outlook & only occurs with Gmail. It's all to do with sending mails. Even when I can't send I can still receive. Anyone got an idea where the problem is? It's worked fine up until about 2 months ago & I don't know where any settings could have been changed. Someone said they had the same problem, upgraded to Outlook '07 & the problem stopped. Is there a quick fix that won't cost me anything.

(Only required because above poster sent one huge long line.)
Don't know what NNTP client you used for posting but it sucks. Rather
than slice up the lines to under 80 characters (preferrably under 72),
it created one long line of 887 characters in length. Reconfigure
your NNTP client to behave.

Gmail is a beta service. It has been in beta status for over 2 years.
Google has proven that they are unwilling to fix problems that were
reported two Februarys ago. Until another decade passes and if Google
then decides to get Gmail out of beta status then expect it to perform
equally to any other freebie e-mail service (which means just as
unreliable).

When there is an error during sending e-mail, Outlook will show that
error in its Progress dialog. You didn't provide any of that
information. Don't describe the error message. Copy and paste it.

Have you yet tried disabled the e-mail scanning "feature" in your
anti-virus software? If you cannot disable it, uninstall the
anti-virus program and reinstall but under a customized install that
does NOT include e-mail scanning. Disable anything else that
interrogates your e-mail, like anti-spam, anti-spyware, anti-malware,
and other security products.
