Outlook 2007 & Gmail accounts

Guest

I use a couple of gmail accounts and ever since I have installed outlook 2007
I am having a problem sending email out. I can get email to the inbox but
cannot send anything out. I have used my gmail accounts in outlook 2003 and
it worked fine. Also I did double check all settings like the email servers
that gmail uses and all settings on outlook and gmail side.....Any help on
this is greatly appreciated

Sorry I should have put the error in before..my bad..just got up..hehe anyway
yes the error I get is this and it pretty much pretends like its transferring
forever and times out and gives this error:

Sending' reported error (0x8004210B) : 'The operation timed out waiting for
a response from the sending (SMTP) server. If you continue to receive this
message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider
(ISP).'

These issues are usually caused by virus scanner integrating with Outlook.
Disable this integration and tr again.

Disabling those isn't the same as disabling its integration of it with
Outlook. Check the documentation of your security solution on how to do that
properly.

As far as I know, there is no Anti-virus integration. My Antivirus software
is not set to check incoming or outgoing emails. Also the Windows firewall is
disabled and my other software firewall is set to allow all. If this is not
how I am to disable integration, please elaborate more on how I can go about
doing this. Again, Outlook 2003 had no problems sending with my current
system configuration. Nothing has changed except going from Outlook 2003 to
Outlook 2007.

One more bit of information. I do have other POP3 email accounts that are
not through GMAIL and those seem to work fine. It’s only the GMAIL email
accounts that will not send with Outlook 2007, but worked fine in Outlook
2003. Could there be a conflict with the new Outlook and the GMAIL servers
somehow?

I have setup my email account several times, just to make sure everything is
correct. I've followed guides from MS and Google to do this, as well as
tried other tweeks people have posted on the internet. When I click Test
Account Settings the POP3 tests fine, but the SMTP displays a timeout message
(see below). It worked for about 2 weeks or so after I first installed, now
it doesn't. I have installed Iolo Antivirus/Firewall since then so I'm
thinking that might be it. But I have all firewall/antivirus turned off
(killed processes). I am now uninstalling the Iolo products to see if maybe
there is a registry key somewhere that got hosed.

******
Send test e-mail message: The operation timed out waiting for a response
from the sending (SMTP) server. If you continue to receive this message,
contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).

So I uninstalled the Iolo antivirus and firewall and still no luck. I also
found a tip online somewhere to try clearing the SSL cache in IE - I did so
but no luck there either. My next step is to uninstall and reinstall
outlook. I really need this to work.

I fixed it! I decided to let the auto setup run to see what would happen.
And it worked. Guess I should of done that from the getgo. What changed was
on the Advanced tab in More Settings. The SMTP port that the autosetup uses
is 587 with TLS encryption. Before I had 465 (or whatever it is) and SSL
encryption - per Gmail and Microsoft's instructions. Hope this helps anyone
else with this problem.

Hey

I had the same problem, outlook showed an error for sending my emails from
my gmail account.

I don't know if it will be helpful but the problem was really silly, and I
suppose the error happened when outlook 2007 imported everything from the
previous version.
In the settings of my account, my e-mail adress was replaced by my last name
and where my first name and last name should have been, only my first name
remained. so I changed it and everything works fine now, of course. When I
think that it took me days to figure this one out... :p

Hi Tone,

It worked for me on one of my 2 Gmail accounts, unfortunately with the
same settings in the other account same error message.

Thanks all the same, pity Google have not come up with a workaround
themselves.
