Outlook 2003 not responding when clicking on an e-mail with attachment

Hi,

I am running Outlook 2003 on Microsoft XP. After reading various
posts on this same problem, I figured the problem had to do with
Winfax. I have Winfax 10.02 which is the updated version for
Microsoft XP. The posts hint that the problem has to do with winfax
but nobody posted a solution. I need both these programs on the
computer. Any help would be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance - nb.

WinFax is a Symantec product. Ask them or search their knowledgebase
library. It does not work with Outlook 2003 or if it does, it causes all
kinds of errors. They (Symantec) will probably supply you with an update
but it will cost you the support charge ($29.95 IIRC) and may cost for the
update.

Just use Windows XP fax instead - fewer headaches and it is included in
Windows XP.

I searched their knowledge base and they state that Winfax 10.02 or
any earlier versions is not compatible with Outlook 2003. Upon that
they say that they will send a replacement CD. But my question is
what good will a replacement CD do? It might have the same problem?
Maybe I am misunderstanding what they are saying. The funny thing is
that they didn't mention whether they have resolved this problem or
not. Also no mention about an update.

Stupid question. How do I access Windows XP fax?

YOu need to add it from Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs->Windows
Software. It is an optional installation.

That's too bad you bought it. What Symantec does not tell you is that
WinFax Pro does not work anymore over an Internet.
WinFax Pro utilizes port 135 which every ISP now blocks/filters at the
request of Microsoft's request to Homeland Security in our government.

I know it does not answer your question, however, once you have it
installed, it will be impossible now to use over Internet. However, as
a local fax machine, it works great. But so do plenty of freebie softwares
too.

Um. remove the tinfoil hat. Port 135 is NOT blocked on all ISPs and
Microsoft has nothing to do with this piece of paranoid misinformation.

Oh, and WinFax Pro works fine here. As it uses the analog telephone line,
any ISP port blocking has nothing to do with it working or not in Outlook,
any version.

Are you serious? Where did you come up with this one?
Fax uses phone lines, not the Internet. Always has, always will. Please be
more careful to be accurate when posting answers.
