Outlook 2003 Newsreader has disappeared

Since I installed the release version of Office XP, the Outlook Newreader -
after one use - has disappeared. The "News" button is on the toolbar, but
clicking it only brings up an Explorer window! I can only assume that the
dialog "Outlook Newsreader is not your preferred newsreader do you want to
change this..." has somehow corrupted the link to the newsreader. [Outlook
2003 beta had become linked to Outlook Express version 6 for some reason.]

How do I reestablish the proper link.
NB I've clicked on the Outlook selfrepair button, but in spite of what
appeared to be a thorough check of the install process, it didn't correct
the problem.

Outlook is not, has never been, nor will ever be a newsreader. Outlook has
always used the Windows default newsreader, which is usually Outlook Express
in "news only" mode. In spite of its title, Outlook's Newsreader is Outlook
Express in "news only" mode (if Outlook Express is the default newsreader.
Otherwise, Outlook will use what ever the Windows default newsreader is.)

You can accomplish the same thing by creating a shortcut to Outlook Express
with this command "C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /newsonly,
then adding this shortcut to your Outlook Bar.
