Outlook 2003 opens very briefly and then shuts down in a few seconds.
I am using a 2.66 GHz machine with 2 GB RAM and MS Windows XP Pro. SP2.
I recently re-installed Windows on a new hard disk and then installed Office
2003 and many other programs. I had had everything in fine working order
before (on the old hard disk) but needed to go to a larger hard disk.
Now, when I try to start Outlook, it opens but closes after just a few
seconds.
All the other Office programs work fine. I tried the "detect &
repair"; I tried uninstalling Outlook then re-installing; .Still no good on
Outlook startup. Then I uninstalled all of Office 2003 -then re-installed
it all .with no Outlook function still. Then I re-installed Windows (in
upgrade mode). Nothing I do is getting Outlook to work for me. I really
need to get this
program working again; I've used it for many years-never with this problem.
BTW,
Outlook Express does work OK.
***Note--The only thing I can think of now is: during the course of
re-install of the other programs, during one of the restarts, Windows
suddenly asked me to click in as a user when Windows starts up. This was
out-of-the-ordinary; usually, for the last few years Windows has opened up
without me having to
click on as a user since I'm the ONLY USER. When this occurred I opened
the control panel, and looked under User Settings -there was something else
listed-I don't remember what. Anyway, I was afraid it was some sort of
Spy-ware or something .so I deleted it from the Users Settings. The next
time I rebooted, Windows again started up without asking me to click in as
a user. (I do prefer that, why should I need to click in when I'm the only
user)? I do not know of any program I'm running that requires a separate
user, and would this affect Outlook 2003 anyway?
This computer is a stand-alone, NO OTHER computer or users have access to
it. I connect to the Internet via a 3mbs cable connection.
No one else can login or in anyway use my machine, unless some malware got
in there (that evades my scans and searches). This is a new clean install
of Windows XP Pro Sp2, and Office 2003. The first program I set-up on the
machine was the Charter Hi-Speed Internet Suite (F-Secure).
This Outlook worked fine for me on the old small drive, connected to the
Internet or Offline both.
Please help
Thanks
