Outlook 2003 multiple Password Prompts

Environment:
Windows XP SP2, Outlook 2003 SP3, Exchange 2007 SP1

Outlook 2003 suddenly began requiring numerous password attempts before
connecting to the Exchange server.
We have Outlook 2003 connected to Exchange 2007, in cached exchange mode
using RPC .We verified the password by connecting to OWA and changed the
password just to make sure. No problems with OWA or connecting to mail using
a different computer. On the problematic computer, we have tried rebuilding
the profile, selecting “always prompt for username and passwordâ€, removing
cached exchange mode, loading Outlook in safe mode and stopping all
anti-virus software services (symantic) along with removing all 3rd party
Outlook plug-ins and no password manager software installed.
Outlook 2003 will go connected and update the .ost file but only after
entering in the password 6 to 7 times. This is only happening to 4 computers
on the network, the rest of the machines running Outlook 2003 do not seem to
have problems.
Any thoughts? Thank you in advance

I just encountered this problem on two different machines on different
networks.
Both machines are running XP Home.
Both are using Outlook 2003

SP and Updates are current on Office and OS.

I can tell you what I have tried so far that HAS NOT worked.

I tried to remove a Registry Key sub key under :
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Protected Storage System Provider

I checked all the settings in Outlook.
(Remember = yes, SSL = No, No Typos.. ect)

I changed the password on the account and then changed the password in
outlook.

I created a new account in outlook (same settings) and it also showed the
same error.

I deleted the outlook profile and created a new one.

I checked the permissions to the registry key and to the PST files and
folders (Full access across the board)

The only thing that DID work is when I opened up outlook express and made a
new account (same ID and Password). Then I was able to download from the
server.

But the Outlook2003 client still failed and prompted for a password each time.

Good luck finding the solution. I am following a hunch it has something to
do with Microsoft Live care one right now but it's not looking too promising.

Mike,

I solved the problem by removing then re-adding the 'users account' from the
control panel. Why this solved the problem, or what caused it I am still not
sure about.

These computers did not have Live Care installed on them.

Good Luck

I'm having the same issue with Outlook 2003. I have currently 7 machines
that are all running WinXP Pro SP3, Outlook 2003 SP3 that continually prompt
for passwords. I have also check all my password setting on my Outlook
clients as well as my email server (not Exchange). I even deleted the email
accounts in Outlook and re-added them. I changed the passwords on the email
server and Outlook, verifying them through access to the web-mail server.

:(

Any suggestions anybody?
