Outlook 2003 mailmerge using a category

I have created a category - Christmas cards- for people I want to send cards
to, and want to do either a mailmerge, mail labels, or perhaps an export of
just these records, but I can't figure out how to do either.

Is one way easier than the other - and all tips appreciated.

You can't do any of these things directly with categories. Create a new
(temporary) contact folder and *copy* the contacts of the the category into
it. You can use the folder as source for a mailmerge and delete it
eventually.

I see a selection Move to folder when I am viewing this category, but how do
I copy them instead ?

Right-click rather than left-click before you drag and you will get both copy
and move options.

I created a new folder to use,
but when I view my contacts by category and move down to my Christmas Cards
contacts -
I'm not sure what "drag"you're referring to.
If I highlight the contacts in that category - I only have the option to
Move them to the new folder, not copy them.

Once you have highlighted the contacts you want to copy, grab them with the
right mouse button (not click but jam your finger down) then drag to the
destination folder. Release. You will get the choice to move or copy. Try
it with a single Contact first to get a feel for it. It works, honest!

click the category's header, keep the mouse button clicked and drag the
mouse to the target folder. Now (hm, don't know how to say that) take the
finger away from the mouse button, a context menu opens, choose Copy.

Yes an odd series of mouse movements but it worked - thanks.

But I accidentally moved one category to a folder instead of copying it - is
there a way to move it back to my regular contacts folder now ?

Not exactly "odd" - it's called drag-and-drop. Many softwares (including
Windows) use this very convenient method.

To copy the things back to the original folder, use the same
drag-and-drop method. Make sure you use the right-hand mouse click,
otherwise the default is 'Move'.

There is an easier way. Just start the merge from Outlook, select the
category, and complete the merge to the selected Contacts.
No need for all the trouble of creating a new folder.
