Email mailmerge message "Mail is not installed on you computer"

I need to mailmerge personalised emails and keep getting first of all
"mapi32.dll is an invalid extended MAPI Library" and then "Mail is not
installed on your computer". I have followed the instructions on the Online
help but always get the same result on performing the merge. I am using Word
and Outlook 2003 on a Windows 2003 server on a thin client basis. Could this
be the set up by the IT guys perhaps? Would be grateful for any help on this.
