Outlook 2003 - Mail Stuck in Outbox if Folder Option is ON

S

Steve

OK, maybe some kind soul can help.

Here is the scenario:

1) I am running Office Outlook 2003 on a WinXP Pro
Workstation.
Outlook 2003 is connecting via LAN to Exchange 2000 on a
Win2000 Server Machine
2) Both Machines on same LAN/Domain/Subnet
3) This is NOT an IMAP or POP3 Setup! This is Outlook
talking to Exchange 2000

Note: This problem did not exist in Outlook XP!

OK, I upgraded from Outlook XP to Outlook 2003 and it
inherited this great Advanced E-Mail option:

"In folders other than the Inbox, save replies with
original message"

I need that option ON so that when I reply to a message in
a folder the reply is automatically kept in the same
folder. Great for organizational purposes, but this basic
Outlook functionality no longer works with Outlook 2003.

If enabled, all emails are stuck in the Outbox. If I
disable this option all is OK, but I loose the
organizational feature and have to manually copy sent
emails to the proper folders I want them in. This defeats
the automation and is a pain.

I even tried re-installing the entire XP OS from scratch
(with full format) and then installed only Office Outlook
2003 and still that same problem.

Uninstalling Outlook 2003 and downgrading back to Outlook
XP works again, so this is definetly looking like a bug
with Outlook 2003.

Before anyone says it, I need Outlook 2003 as the "Favorite
Folders" feature is a life saver with my nested folder
structure and thousands of emails. I cannot go back to
Outlook XP

Anyone know what the heck is happening and how to fix it?

Please email your reply, or if you post, please CC me in an
email as well!!!!

Thanks in advance.

Steve.

Just a thought...

You could try to create a new OST file.
Just close Outlook
Search your hard drive for
*.ost
(be sure to search in hidden files)
Then delete it (or all that you find)

A new OST file will be created when you open
Outlook.

Sometimes the OST files get corrupt and need to
get cleaned up.

I guess you missread, 2 points:

1) This is an Exchange setup, there are no .PST .OST or any
other local files/databases on my machine!

2) I have already mentioned I rebuilt my machine and
installed Outllok 2003 clean so how can there be corrupt files?

There is the remote possibility this is due to something in
the exchange databse for my account so If anyone has any
ideas, please let em know.

Thanks.

Actually, an OST file is created for Exchange clients cache
and stored locally.

Sorry I couldn't help.
