Outlook 2003 mail iitems automatically disappear from all folders

Over the last few days when I connect to my POP3 mailbox my mail is
downloaded and then a second or two later Outlook deletes some of the items
in my inbox, without any action from me, so I can't read them.
There are no active filters, the current view is set to all messages, they
don't move to the spam folder , deleted folder or McAfee spamkiller folder
(Internet Suite 7).
Any ideas what's happening as I've had the same setup for months without any
problems

Check for rules?
Disable all your addins (McAfee, whatever) as a test?
Reset your views back to the defaults (will remove custom views, note) by
running OL once from the Start | run line with the /cleanviews switch?
(browse to outlook.exe, add (space) /cleanviews after the closing ")
