WHat have you tried in your attempts to repair? Have you tried a new mail
profile? Have you tried Help>Detect and Repair from any other Office app?

When i click on the icon to open - it opens then a message comes up to say
that office has encountered a problem and needs to close. I cant even try to
click on the help button as the programme then automatically closes.

Is this for ANY Office application? If so, use Add/Remove Programs in
Control Panel to perform the repair.

Did a repair on my outlook.bak as it had errors. Fixed

Run the detect and repair under Add/Remove Programs - done!

But problem still persists. Even rebooted the machine to see but no go. As
soon as it opens it says it has encountered a problem and needs to close. I
have run out of ideas how to fix this. Any help?

I don't see any post where you say you tried a new mail profile. Do that.

Since Outlook and Outlook Express are not related (except in some of their
functions), I'd expect them to behave differently. Your question is similar
to "I can create HTML with Word but not with Notepad. Why?"

Alas, I can't think of any other suggestions except to completely remove
Outlook, delete the existing mail profiles, and reinstall, but that may not
help, either. Perhaps someone else will have a suggestion.

My outlook 2k3 is doing the same thing: says it's encountered an error and
needs to close, but will launch in safe mode. I can get my mail,
send/receive, but if I close outlook and open it, it does the same thing, and
none of my settings are saved. Can someone look into this matter? If I
create a new profile, ie delete my existing, will it lose all my
folders/emails? Can I use the pst file again?

One of the PCs in our office is doing the same thing as reported in this
thread. I don't see a solution that resolves the issues of the original
poster nor for the poster below.

Our problem PC gets the following MS Outlook Error Message: Error Signature
AppName: outlook.exe AppVer: 11.0.8217.0 ModName: unknown
ModVer: 0.0.0.0. Offset: 001fba3b

The problem on our PC was coincidental with some issues with subscription to
Cloudmark's spam blocker which hasn't been working.

Did you try uninstalling Cloudmark?
