Outlook 2003 is shutting down when clicking the Send/Receive butto

I have Windows Vista Home Basic, Internet Explorer 8, Outlook 2003, and my
ISP is American Family Online. Outlook was working just fine until recently.
Now every time I open Outlook and click the Send/Receive button it
crashes--Screen fades and (not responding) is printed at the top of the
window. Task manager says not responding as well. When this function was
working, it would automatically dial my ISP by giving me the window to click
connect to dial-up. It only crashes when I am not already connected to the
server; if I establish the server connection outside of outlook prior to
opening outlook, I do not have this problem. Can this be fixed? If so, I need
instructions without a lot of computer lingo that I may not understand--I'm
not that savvy.
Thank you

I did as you said, but when I deleted the SRS file it did not fix the
crashing problem which occurs when you click send/receive, but are not online
yet. Furthermore, I went back and checked for the folder that came up when I
put %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook into the start search.
Now there are two folders labeled Outlook and outlook respectively. Both say
they were created 1/3/09, both 133KB and containing the same files:
Outcmd.dat, Outlook (office data file), outlook. srs, outlook (XML document),
outlprnt. So, even though I deleted the SRS file (I see it now in my recycle
bin), it does not appear to be really deleted. It still says it is 3KB.

Find and delete the SRS file for your profile. Paste
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook
in the start search field and press enter to open windows explorer to the
folder where it is.
See http://www.outlook-tips.net/beginner/filepath.htm for more info.
