Outlook 2003 & Hotmail

Guest

Help, I just started having trouble with Outlook 2003 & Hotmail, recently I
keep getting errors indicating that I am not connected to the internet. I get
the following error:
Task 'Hotmail: Folder:Inbox Downloading all items.' reported error
(0x800CCCF0) : 'The service is currently unavailable. Try again later. The
server responded 'Service Unavailable.'. '

I'm on XP Home Edition, never had these problems with Express. I have also
been having trouble moving mail from my inbox to my personal folders.

Anybody seen this before??

Thanks

I've been getting the same darned thing and it's frustrating me. I thought I
did something wrong.

So how do I fix it?

Thats to bad, I liked the ability to download emails from Hotmail, hopefully
Microsoft will come up with another way. HTTP downloads was one of the
reasons I went to Outlook 2003.

Thanks for the info.

If you'll read the link you'll discover you can still use HTTP, just not
with the free accounts. It costs $20 a year for the basic access (Hotmail
plus). There are also 3rd party utilities that will pull Hotmail into
Outlook.

Well I just received the following email from MSN:

Dear MSN Member,

Recently, Hotmail® announced that in order to improve customer experience
and reduce spam and junk e-mail abuse on MSN® services, Hotmail will no
longer allow new e-mail accounts to be accessed via Microsoft® Office
Outlook® and Outlook Express.

We are pleased to inform you that because you are an existing and valued
customer, at this time your current Hotmail and MSN account(s) are exempt
from this restriction and you will be able to continue enjoying access to
those accounts from Outlook or Outlook Express. However, any new Hotmail or
MSN accounts you create will not be accessible via Outlook or Outlook Express.

Because you actively use Outlook or Outlook Express to access one or more of
your MSN Hotmail or MSN e-mail accounts, this could be the ideal time to
consider subscribing to our powerful new e-mail service - Microsoft Office
Outlook Live.

As an Outlook Live subscriber, not only can you get uninterrupted access to
your MSN e-mail accounts from Outlook, but you will also enjoy many other
benefits.

As a thank-you for your loyalty to MSN, we'd like to offer you a 25%
discount off the regular price of a year's subscription to Outlook Live. Sign
up by April 19, 2005, and you can enjoy all your first year's benefits for
just $44.95 instead of $59.95*.

My Outlook still doesn't work using Hotmail as they state above. (Valued
Customer)?

I think that one hand doesn't know what the other is doing.

We're trying to confirm this means they decided to keep HTTP access past
this spring for users of older accounts. It sounds like they did, but until
we have confirmation I prefer to stick with the original announcement that
it would end this spring sinceit's better to err and say it's ending over
say it's not going to end and it does.

The Hotmail settings have been changed as a result of Microsoft going to
"Live". That change has required users of Outlook to reconfigure their
account settings. However it still is causing problems for me with my Junk
Mail folder since it is not downloading Junk Mail.
You will be required to set up or change your hotmail account settings to
conform the "live" settings in order to use Outlook as your mail manager.

The Hotmail settings have been changed as a result of Microsoft going to
"Live".

Not quite. They changed because "Live" discontinued support for the WebDAV
protocol; something which had been planned since Sept., 2008, but was held
off because of user complaints.
That change has required users of Outlook to reconfigure their
account settings.

It required the download of the "Office Outlook Connector" for continued
HTTPMail access to Hotmail with Outlook 2003. Did you install the
"Connector"?
However it still is causing problems for me with my Junk
Mail folder since it is not downloading Junk Mail.
You will be required to set up or change your hotmail account settings to
conform the "live" settings in order to use Outlook as your mail manager.

It sounds like you just set up Outlook to access your Hotmail account using
POP3. That will work; but it won't function the same way as HTTPMail would
function. For that, you will need to install the "Office Outlook Connector".
Have you done that?
