I have a XP Pro machine that originally had Office 2000 Std. Suite with
Outlook 2003 installed. We have this same configuration on 10's of PC's in
the enterprise working fine. This particular machine will start Outlook 2003
on the first attempt (icon click), but when you close Outlook 2003 and
attempt to reopen it the hourglass displays and the Outlook client doesn't
open. A new process is created in the task manager, and the original instance
still exists, leaving now two Outlook.exe processes. If I kill the new
process the client will open. This happens every time. I attempted to
completely remove Outlook 2003 and then Office 2000, and then reinstall in
the Office 2000 then Outlook 2003 order. I even removed both and installed
Office 2003 only. Same problem. Anyone know the solution to this one?

Check if all your add-ins are compatible with Outlook 2003. Also after an
upgrade it is recommended to recreate your mail profilé. For detailed steps
on how to do this see;

Roady,

Thanks for the response. I disabled all Add-Ins, and I forgot to mention
earlier that I had already recreated the profile. The problem seems to be in
the fact that Outlook will not close the Process when the client application
is closed. It still displays in the Task Manager as a running process. If you
kill the OUTLOOK.exe process, it will then launch by the start up icon. Any
more thoughts?

Do you have any applications that use Outlook as well? Like a virusscanner
that does incoming/outgoing mail scanning or a PDA that synchs with Outlook?
