Outlook 2003 Hangs Getting Messages

I recently moved from OE to Outlook 2003 and am having a problem
similar to several other postings I've seen. Every now and then - at
least several times a day - Outlook hangs when downloading a series of
messages. There doesn't seem to be a consistent pattern, at least as
far as I can tell, regarding attachments, file size or contents. The
only way to clear it appears to be going to my ISP's webmail system
and manually deleting the messages - and then waiting about 10 minutes
before getting more messages.

I'm using Win XP Pro, SP 1 with Outlook 2003 (11.5608.5703). I did
have Norton Anti-Spam installed as an add-in, but I removed it as it
no longer seemed needed with the Junk Mail filter. McAfee AntiVirus
8.0.26 is running as well as their Personal Firewall where Outlook is
granted full access.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am experiencing the same but only if the Delete Junk Emails option is set.
Do you have that option set?

Do you mean from Tools > Options > Junk Email and choosing Delete Junk
Emails? No, I've got it set to High.

That is what I meant. Apparently you are having it without that checked. I
have mine set to low. If I turn of the delete option it stops and works
fine. As soon as I turn it back on, it locks up checking mail.

Thanks for the clarification - I didn't notice that it was a checkbox
and not one of the options. Unfortunately, I don't have it checked and
it still locks up from time to time. I changed my check mail
automatically setting to 10 minutes (from 5) and it seemed to help
somewhat.

Thanks - Joe

I've noticed that whenever Outlook locks the transfere content is base 64. Check the bottom of your header to see if this is the case. I must go to my online mail to delete this email and then all is well. The base 64 that locks is always a large photo with the 64 base as the code. The line to look for is

Content-Transfer-Encoding: base6

Each and every one that I receive that locks Outlook (causing me to reboot my computer), has base64. I can only hope that MS is looking into this for a solution
