Outlook 2003 freezes

I have been using Outlook 2003 to connect to my
school's email server (IMAP) for the last 1 year.
Since a month ago, Outlook freezes all the time -
sometimes when I am trying to send a message,
sometimes when I am reading a message and sometimes
just like that. I have noticed the icon
'Synchronizing folders' a number of times when Outlook
froze on me.

I tried reinstalling Outlook, but that did not help.
Any ideas to fix this issue would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Sounds like another application is using the same resources as Outlook.

Try these steps;

Uninstall Office completely.
Run Chkdsk /f.
Perform a disk cleanup.
Search the hard drive for any tmp files and delete them.
Empty the recycle bin.
Defrag the hard drive.
Re-install Office.
