Outlook 2003 error HELP!!!

okay so my computer was having issues to make long story short I saved my
folders from my Outlook 2003 email acct to my external hard drive by drag and
drop. So now my computer is fixed I want to put those folders back into my
Outlook 2003 and I can't it says "Unable to display the folder. Microsoft
Office Outlook could not access the specified folder location. Could not open
the item. Try again" The files seem to be exchange shortcuts???WHY??? how
can I fix this I need alot of those saved emails as they are receipts for
programs I purchased and have the registration codes on them. Oh, please
can someone help me?????

You cannot drag and drop Outlook folders to a Windows folder. That just
creates shortcuts to your Outlook folders, it does not copy data. Exactly
what was done on your PC? Did you have to reinstall Windows and your other
apps all over again? What version of Windows?

Hi Brian,
Oh, how I wish I knew this before. As the Dell rep who was helping me told
me this was okay. Anyway, yes I had to replace my whole drive. Therefore,
all my apps needed to be reinstalled. So does this mean I am no longer going
to get these?

Well the icon on the external drive should have had the little shortcut arrow
in the lower corner. That would have been a big flag to you that you didn't
save your data.

I think you're out of luck unless you copied the actual PST. Next time,
follow the correct backup procedure.
