When I exit out of outlook 2003 (either using the exit command or the X) the
notification icon in the system tray remains. Then when I try to either
right click the icon to open it it no longer respons, or when I then try to
re-launch outlook using a shortcut it no longer starts. The only way I can
get outlook back is to reboot, and which point I get a failed to exit dialog
box. Right now I am careful to only minimize outlook, and keep it running
inorder to avoid a re-boot. Can someone please help me to allow outlook to
fully exit (including the notification icon) when I desire.

what addins are you using that are accessing the outlook message store? This
includes fax software that uses Outlook's address book, internet postage
software, ActiveSync and many others.

if you Control+Alt+Delete, you can close Outlook without rebooting, but you
should determine what is accessing Outlook and preventing it from closing
properly and close that program first.

I had the same problem and what I did was delete my pst
file that has all my old messages and folders in it and
create a new one. If you need full detail you can email
me at (e-mail address removed) and I will help you
through it. After I recreated my pst file it worked fine.
