Outlook 2003 Deleted Inbox Messages

I open a message in my Outlook 2003 inbox, then navigate away from the
inbox to, say, sent items. When I return to the inbox, the messages I
have read have been deleted. Anyone any ideas what settings I need to
alter to avoid this happening?

Probably not being deleted, but I bet you have a view set to hide read
messages. Change your view settings.
 
Cheers - found them all. Changed the settings in View -> Arrange By ->
Current View -> Messages. Thanks for your help
