Outlook 2003 Crashes when i click on New Mail Icon.

Outlook 2003 connected to exchange server.
Everythings been working fine up until about a month ago when i've had
several users inexplicably getting crashes. All at the same point.

When the New Mail window opens up with the cursor blinking in the To: line.
After a few seconds, the cursor freezes and Outlook crashes.
If i hit the To: button, Outlook crashes immediately.

It's starting to happen on over the last month for no reason.

If i do office updates, some have been fixed but i have several machines
failing on the genuine advantage stuff although our software is all legal.

I just don't understand whats going on.

Thanks.

It crashes with what error?
What is being logged to the Event Viewer?
Are you using Word or Outlook as the email editor? Does changing it make a
difference?

Hiya,

Faulting application outlook.exe, version 11.0.6353.0, stamp 408f2937,
faulting module mshtml.dll, version 7.0.6000.16414, stamp 45a7c50d, debug? 0,
fault address 0x000386f6.
and event id 1001.
Bucket 383823474, bucket table 1, faulting application outlook.exe, version
11.0.6353.0, stamp 408f2937, faulting module mshtml.dll, version
7.0.6000.16414, stamp 45a7c50d, debug? 0, fault address 0x000386f6.

This is a laptop using rpc over http. All the others are using standard
exchange server connector and crash in the same place but i cant check the
error until tomorrow.

As far as i know, everyone is using Word as the editor.

I'll change the editor tomorrow and let you know.

Taa.

Hiya Roady,

Partial success.
Tools, options, mail format. I've turned the fromat from HTML to Plain text
and everything works.
Turning Word off as the editor is greyed out. I think that's because
Outlook2003 is an upgrade through small business server on top of Office XP
Pro. Just a guess.

Does this help ?

Thanks.

Your error indicated an issue with mshtml which is used for generating HTML
formatted email so changing your message format to Plain Text is a good work
around. Do you have the same issues when you are using Outlook in safe mode?
Start-> Run; outlook.exe /safe

You might want to do a repair on Office and/or Internet Explorer and see if
it solves your issue.

Word is not available to you as the editor as Word and Outlook must be the
same version for this to work.
