Outlook 2003 crashes upon opening

Hi all, Outlook 2003 recently stopped opening for me the other day and I'm at
a loss as to why. I followed the advice given in another posting, which
suggested I run the 'Scanpst.exe' and 'Scanost.exe' files, but running
neither of these has solved the problem. I do not receive any error messages
when Outlook crashes; it begins opening, but then shuts down before I can do
anything in the program.

I am running Windows XP Tablet and am current on all updates as of 13 Nov
2007. I should add that I use the Groupwise Connector program in Outlook so
I can synchronize my email with the Groupwise client on campus, but this
add-on/feature has never presented any problems since I started using it in
Aug 2007.

Thanks for your help.

Does Outlook run in safe mode? Start > Run > outlook.exe /safe > OK button

Outside of that, what version of the Groupwise connector are you using.
(Yes, there are known compatibility issues depending on the version of the
connector. For example, you would need the connector from Groupwise 7. The
connector from Groupwise 6.5 doesn't support OL2003.)

Thanks for the response.

Outlook will not start in Safe mode and I have the most recent version of
the Groupwise Connector program. Sorry, I forgot to include the safe mode
information in my first post. I just reviewed the Event Viewer, and it says
that my computer 'Accepted Safe Mode action: Microsoft Office Outlook', but
Outlook never started when I attempted to put it into safe mode at this time.

Is there any way to disable add-ons without starting Outlook? I received
only one message since this crashing started and it had to do with an error
in an add-on and that the add-on would be disabled. I agreed to turn off the
add-on, but that apparently didn't solve the crashing problem.

Any other help would be greatly appreciated.

/safe mode disables addins.

At this point, I'm thinking something is funky with the groupwise connector.
Might try uninstalling the connector, reboot, and then create a new mail
profile (don't copy the existing mail profile, but create new via the mail
applet in control panel). If Outlook starts at this point, then add back
the connector.

Lets see... what else. Might try looking in the application/system event
logs to see if Outlook posted better info about the crash/lockup. Maybe
something there that gives better clue as to what is going on.

Outside of that and out of curiosity, is there a reason you use the
connector as opposed to say using the IMAP protocol to connect to Groupwise?

I had some success with scanpst.exe and in my case scanost.exe since I have
an Exchange host. Worth a try I suppose.
